It is played using the 2021 Nintendo Switch games Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, remakes of the 2007 Nintendo DS games Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version, and part of the eighth generation of the franchise. As the winner of the previous Padlocke, Pikachu vs. Eevee, John began with Shining Pearl on November 23, 2021, and will be followed by Rick with Brilliant Diamond once John has completed the first leg.
