The Heartless Let's Play is a Franchise Play created by The D-Pad in 2015, focusing on the Kingdom Hearts franchise. The series debuted on December 12, 2015 as a single Let's Play of the original Kingdom Hearts, which won a Patreon poll to occupy what was then the channel's "third slot". Upon its conclusion, Rick indicated an intention to expand the scope of the project to the entire franchise. After a long hiatus, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories was played as a series of livestreams on Twitch in 2018. With the debut of the Kingdom Hearts II LP on January 26, 2019, the series was officially announced as a full Franchise Play, with its title and logo revealed.
The schedule for The Heartless Let's Play differs based on game. The LPs of major entries within the franchise consist of uploads every Saturday and Sunday, generally around 30 minutes in length. LPs of more marginal games are covered through weekly or fortnightly livestreams that usually last between 2 and 4 hours. Games are played in a strict order as for the players to better understand the complicated plot of the franchise, wherein even spinoffs contain crucial story information. Unlike many of the channel's other Franchise Plays, no live-action segments are featured, and the project has thus far not been split into parts.
As of October 14, 2023, 7 games have been played as part of the project, and a total of 301 episodes have been released.
