Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a 2018 fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the fifth game in the Super Smash Bros. series. A demo version of the game was played by The D-Pad at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2018. An episode of casual play was released on June 13, 2018, followed by an episode of a competitive play tournament on June 15, 2018.

The channel continued to cover the game during its pre-release period, releasing an episode of The D-Pad Reacts covering a Nintendo Direct focused on the game, on August 8, 2018, and second covering the final Direct before its release on November 1, 2018.

Upon the game's release, it was played in full on the channel. The LP began on December 10, 2018.

Live-action scenes

The first episode of the World of Light story mode contained a live-action intro. In it, Rick and Ben stop playing Super Smash Bros. for Wii U to discuss the development process of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, from its inception during the development of DLC for the Wii U game, up to its official announcement in March 2018, and the reveal that every former Super Smash Bros. character would be returning for the game at E3 in June of that year. They then explain the basic game mechanics, including the limited starting roster, the "Spirits" system, and the premise and gameplay of the World of Light mode. Just as Rick prepares to begin the LP, they are interrupted by Evil Ben who, after being momentarily distracted by newcomer Geoff (complete with his own Smash-style "Geoff joins the battle!" splash, which only he seems to be aware of), explains that he intends to force them to meticulously 100% the still-unfinished Super Smash Bros. Brawl before allowing them to play Ultimate. However, he is seemingly disintegrated mid-sentence by a beam of light identical to those in the World of Light opening cutscene.

Rick, finding Evil Ben's disappearance to be too convenient, senses something is wrong, but is himself pierced by a beam of light before he can do anything. Geoff begins to panic, and is almost immediately hit by a beam, causing Sarah, who was also in the room with them, to get up and flee the house. Across America, other members of The D-Pad are pierced by the light; Ian while getting food at home, Felice and C/J at The C-Pad, Lindsay while sleeping in her bed, and Dustin, who was in the middle of an attempted suicide by bathtub electrocution after learning that Waluigi is not a playable character in the game. Sarah manages to get outside of the house, but is caught by the light anyway, and even John is taken from California. Finally, Ben, the only remaining member of The D-Pad, sits alone on the coach and prepares to begin playing World of Light.
