Altered Beast is a 1989 beat 'em up arcade game developed and published by Sega. It was later ported to both the Master System and the Sega Genesis, among other consoles. Set in Ancient Greece, the player controls an unnamed character who is raised from the dead by Zeus for the purpose of saving his daughter Athena from Neff, the ruler of the underworld. The protagonist has the ability to transform into one of a number of different magical beasts under certain circumstances. It is one of the forty-two Genesis games included in the Sega Genesis Mini dedicated console. This version of the game was played on The D-Pad in a one-off episode in 2019, as the thirty-fifth game in their Sega Genesis Mini series. The episode was released on December 20, 2019.
The game was revisited on the channel in 2020, when the Master System version was played during the PAX East 2020 BYOC Retro Relay. It was included in a one-off episode covering the event, released on March 2, 2020.
