The D-Pad was a 2012-13 weekly hour-long web radio show created by Rick Desilets, broadcast live by UNregular Radio. It was hosted by Rick, John Selig, Nick Bebel, and occasionally C/J Haley, and featured the team discussing news in the world of video games, along with a number of other nerdy subjects. A half-hour pilot and test run was recorded and uploaded to dpadup.com on September 16, 2012, and the series' first true episode premiered on September 20. It was a live web radio broadcast and ran for 49 episodes, airing Thursday nights at 10pm eastern and reuploading to dpadup.com Sundays at noon until September 2013, when the show went fully independent and continued from John's studio space, The Dojo.
In early April 2013, just as the show was set to celebrate its 2nd anniversary, a paradigm shift at UNregular Radio resulted in a drastic change in ownership, management, and location. Among many other changes, UNregular Radio essentially ceased to exist, and was folded into DigRadio, as it was utlizing DigBoston studio space to produce shows from.
While this series saw the amount of Let's Play content drastically shrink over the course of its year, the time spent at the radio station did give Rick the idea for The Legendary Let's Play, with the intent of using The Dojo as a centralized recording space, learning from the production techniques of UNregular Radio in the process. In the middle of the penultimate episode recorded at DigRadio, a trailer for the Franchise Play was released (displaying "The D-Pad on UNregular Radio" as the channel's name), despite the team having already decided by then to terminate their contract with the radio station.
This second season of the overall D-Pad podcast was hosted by UNregular Radio on unregularradio.com, with on-demand re-uploads of the episodes posted to dpadup.com in a similar manner to the first season.
