After viewing the intro sequence and opening cutscenes, Rick plays through the tutorial level to begin the game proper. He enters World 1-1, trying to perfect the level by getting all of the collectibles within it, which he manages to do. He moves on to the second and third stages of world 1, completing them both just a few items short of a perfect. Finally, he tries out the fourth stage, culminating in a fight against Burt the Bashful, the game's first miniboss. He defeats Burt easily and completes the stage with a perfect, before deciding to move on to the next game.
