Donkey Kong is a 1994 puzzle-platform developed by Nintendo EAD and Pax Softnica and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. It is part of the Donkey Kong series and the Mario franchise, functioning as a vastly expanded remake of the original Donkey Kong game. The first four levels match the four original Donkey Kong levels, and are followed by a further hundred levels, most of which follow a puzzle format where Mario must find a key to open the door and complete the level, while avoiding obstacles. These puzzle stages are interspersed with boss levels more reminiscent of the classic Donkey Kong games. Mario also has a vastly expanded acrobatic moveset compared to prior games, some of which would eventually make their way into Super Mario 64 and become standard in further games. The game was played on The D-Pad in a one-off episode in 2025, as the first game in Donkeython Returns. The episode was streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch channel before being uploaded to YouTube on January 21, 2025.
