Shovel Knight is a 2014 platform game developed and published by Yacht Club games. Its retro graphical style and high difficulty level is intended as a throwback to a number of classic 8-bit games on the Nintendo Entertainment System. The Wii U version of the game was played in full by The D-Pad in 2014.

| After creating a save file (naming the character "Javierska" in reference to A Link Between Worlds, John begins the game. He initially has no problems playing the first stage, but eventually runs into trouble against a bubble-shooting miniboss. He dies, losing some of his gold, which he quickly recovers before defeating the miniboss on his second attempt. Rick discusses several recent changes announced for YouTube and Twitch as John continues through the level, finding a number of hidden rooms containing gems and music sheets along the way. He soon dies again after being knocked down a bottomless pit, but was very close to a checkpoint and is able to return quickly. Eventually, John reaches the end of the stage and faces a boss battle with Black Knight. The fight is somewhat close, but John is able to defeat him and complete the stage. | |||||
