The Eye of Argon is a 1970 heroic fantasy novella written by Jim Theis. Following its publication, it quickly became infamous in science-fiction and fantasy fandom for being "the worst fantasy novel ever", littered with spelling errors and awkward prose. It is frequently read aloud dramatically in groups as a party game, with the challenge being to read as much as possible without either laughing or pronouncing something incorrectly (or, conversely, pronouncing a misspelt word correctly). One such reading was performed by members of The D-Pad in November 2017; the reading had been set as the $150 per month goal on their Patreon account, which had been reached some time before. Due to its use of an experimental (for the channel) multi-camera set-up, and the extremely busy schedule of the channel at that point in time, the video took well over a year to edit and complete, finally being released on YouTube on February 17, 2019.
