Sonic the Hedgehog is a 1991 platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by SEGA. It is the first game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and the first game ever played by The D-Pad. It has been played a total of three times on the channel - the first of these playthroughs was in 2011, as the first game of Sonic Week, with the group playing the original Genesis version. It was revisited in 2014 for D-Pad Rivals as a race between Rick and C/J, with C/J playing the Xbox 360 version, and Rick playing the Wii version. The third and final playthrough of the game was in 2016, with the Genesis version being played once again, as the first proper game in The Super Sonic Let's Play.

11"Please Don't Sue Us, ScrewAttack"12:43C/JRick, John20 June 2011 (2011-06-20)15 August 2011
Rick, John and C/J kick off Sonic Week with the original game. C/J tackles Green Hill Zone and the first act of Marble Zone, attempting three special stages along the way, but only succeeding in two of them. Points of discussion include the Sonic franchise in general, classic video game music, and the annoyance of deleting system files.
22"The Level Two Theory"15:25C/JRick, John20 June 2011 (2011-06-20)16 August 2011
The team discuss the history of the early Sonic games and Rick's "level two theory" of Sonic music while C/J works his way through the rest of Marble Zone and the first two acts of Spring Yard Zone, picking up a further two Chaos Emeralds along the way.
33"Get Blue Sphere"12:35C/JRick, John20 June 2011 (2011-06-20)17 August 2011
C/J obtains the fifth Chaos Emerald before finishing Spring Yard Zone and beginning Labyrinth Zone. However, the increased difficulty of the level prevents him from getting enough rings to enter a special stage; the episode ends with him losing his rings right before the end of Act 2.
44"Hedgehogs Can't Swim"13:38C/JRick, John20 June 2011 (2011-06-20)18 August 2011
C/J dies for the first time in the LP to the boss of Labyrinth Zone, but succeeds on the second try. He then goes on to clear the entirety of Star Light Zone, finally getting the last Chaos Emerald on the way.
55"ZOMBIES!!!"8:41C/JRick, John20 June 2011 (2011-06-20)19 August 2011
Rick, John and C/J get into a lengthy conversation about the board game Zombies!!! and trips to various conventions as C/J plays through the first two acts of Scrap Brain Zone.
66"I'm Not Listening, Motherfucker!"7:40C/JRick, John20 June 2011 (2011-06-20)22 August 2011
C/J makes quick work of Scrap Brain Zone Act 3 and heads to the Final Zone. The group discuss The Adventures of Duane and Brando's "Sonic", a dangerous potential bug in the final boss fight, and the game's anticlimactic 'good ending' as C/J defeats Robotnik and completes the first game of Sonic Week.

1"23 Is Number 1"9:00C/J, RickJohn, Felice23 June 2014 (2014-06-23)
The group discuss their original Sonic LP as Rick and C/J kick off the race. Both complete the first act of Green Hill Zone and enter a special stage, but C/J fails to obtain the Chaos Emerald while Rick succeeds. They each struggle in the second act, with Rick not having enough rings for a special stage and C/J dying, but eventually getting his first Emerald. This results in Rick having a significant lead, having gotten through most of the first act of Marble Zone as C/J beats Green Hill Zone's boss.
2"In the Zone"14:07C/J, RickJohn, Felice24 June 2014 (2014-06-24)
Rick finishes Marble Zone Act 1 and grabs a second Chaos Emerald, while C/J fails at the special stage he enters in the same act. Things continue to go badly for C/J in the second act, as he fails to even enter the giant ring at the end of the level while Rick picks up his third Emerald. C/J catches up to Rick in Act 3, but both players fail repeatedly at a lava block-riding segment, and C/J dies several times as a result, leaving him being behind once more. C/J eventually completes Marble Zone at the same time Rick enters a giant ring in the first act of Spring Yard Zone.
3"Sleevee"13:20C/J, RickJohn, Felice25 June 2014 (2014-06-25)
Rick fails to obtain his fourth Emerald as C/J grabs a second. Later, both of them get another Emerald, making the score 4-3 to Rick. Rick reaches the end of Spring Yard Zone, but dies several times to the boss and risks losing his lead until C/J falls down a bottomless pit and gets a game over, being forced to restart Act 3 as a result. Rick has moved on to the first act of Labyrinth Zone by the time C/J returns to defeat the boss.
4"And It's Cold"14:04C/J, RickJohn, Felice26 June 2014 (2014-06-26)
C/J and Rick become neck and neck during Labyrinth Zone as Rick begins to fall behind. C/J entering a special stage to grab a fourth Emerald gives Rick a slight advantage again, but he spends a long time stuck at the water sliding segment that opens Act 3 and dies later on in the level, giving C/J a significant advantage. Both players run into problems in the act, but C/J remains ahead and finishes the level. However, he falls down a bottomless pit early on in the first act of Star Light Zone, giving Rick a chance to catch up somewhat as he defeats Labyrinth Zone's boss.
5"Nine Inch Garden"8:13C/J, RickJohn, Felice27 June 2014 (2014-06-27)
Rick continues to catch up in the first act of Star Light Zone, with both players entering special stages at the end of it. C/J once again fails to get an Emerald, and Rick picks up his fifth. John discusses the group's plans to see Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails as Rick and C/J play through Act 2. Rick gets the sixth and final Emerald, and C/J begins to realize he may have run out of special stage opportunities. However, C/J regains his lead, and enters Scrap Brain Zone several minutes before Rick.
6"Cockwork Zone"16:34C/J, RickJohn, Felice28 June 2014 (2014-06-28)
Both C/J and Rick die frequently in the first act of Scrap Brain Zone, mostly in the same specific spot. By the time they finally reach the end, Rick has a slight lead over C/J. However, Rick grinds to a halt in the second act, dying multiple times while C/J speeds ahead. Rick eventually completes the act, but by then C/J has already reached Final Zone and defeated Robotnik, winning the race. As C/J finished with only four Emeralds, he receives the bad ending as a result. While Rick beats the final boss and watches the good ending, C/J starts a new game in Green Hill Zone and completes the special stage that was giving him trouble earlier.
