Donkey Kong Country is a 1994 platform game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It is the first game in the Donkey Kong Country series. It reboots the continuity of the larger Donkey Kong franchise, with the player controlling Donkey Kong and his nephew Diddy Kong as they battle King K. Rool in order to retrieve their stolen bananas. It is a side-scrolling platformer with pre-rendered 3D graphics, an innovation on the SNES at the time. It is one of the twenty-one games included in the Super NES Classic Edition dedicated console. This version of the game was played on The D-Pad in a one-off episode in 2017, as the third game in their Super NES Classic Edition series. The episode was released on October 5, 2017.

The game was revisited on The D-Pad in 2022, as the first game in Donkeython and the second game in Donkeython Returns. Episodes were streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch channel before being uploaded to YouTube. The LP consisted of 2 episodes, each comprising a full playthrough of the game, released from December 25, 2022 to January 23, 2025.
