Captain America: The First Avenger is a 2011 superhero film directed by Joe Johnston and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It stars Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke, and Stanley Tucci. It is based on the Marvel Comics character Captain America, and is the first film in the Captain America series, and the fifth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Set during World War II, the plot follows Steve Rogers, a frail man who is transformed into the experimental super-soldier Captain America. He attempts to stop the villainous Red Skull from using a mysterious artifact known as the Tesseract to conquer the world. The film's Blu-Ray release includes A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer, a short film directed by Leythum, written by Eric Pearson, and starring Clark Gregg as recurring MCU character Phil Coulson.
