Metroid Dread is a 2021 action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. Is it the fifth numbered installment in the Metroid franchise, and a sequel to the 2002 Game Boy Advance game Metroid Fusion. The plot follow Samus Aran as she investigates the possible survival of the X parasites on the planet ZDR, only to be ambushed by a mysterious foe and seven hacked E.M.M.I. research robots. The gameplay builds on that of Metroid: Samus Returns, featuring the return of that game's parrying system, while also including a more developed version of the stealth and pursuit-based gameplay present in Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission, with certain areas in which the player must evade the deadly E.M.M.I. robots without being captured. The game was played on The D-Pad by Rick upon its release, as the eighth and final game in The Screwy Let's Play. Episodes were streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch account before posted to YouTube. The LP consisted of 5 episodes; 3 covering the main game, and 2 post-completion speedrun attempts, released from October 11 to October 27, 2021.

Trivia

• Metroid Dread was the impetus for the creation of The Screwy Let's Play, as its announcement during Nintendo's E3 Direct presentation on the same day Super Metroid won a Patreon poll to be the next Tuesday stream on the channel led Rick to expand the Super Metroid LP into a Franchise Play covering the entire core series, leading up to the release of Dread.
• Metroid Dread is the only LP in The Screwy Let's Play to feature a live-action intro, which doubles as an episode of A Brief History covering the entire Metroid franchise up to that point. This was later uploaded as a standalone episode separate from the Dread LP, and added to the beginning of the playlist for The Screwy Let's Play.
