Shining Force is a 1993 tactical role-playing game developed by Climax Entertainment and Sonic! Software Planning and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis. It is the first game in the Shining Force series, and part of the larger Shining franchise. The story follows Max and his allies in the titular Shining Force as they attempt to prevent the resurrection of the Dark Dragon. It is one of the forty-two Genesis games included in the Sega Genesis Mini dedicated console. This version of the game was played on The D-Pad in a one-off episode in 2020, as the forty-second and final game in their Sega Genesis Mini series. The episode was released on December 31, 2020.

Trivia
- The Shining Force LP was originally intended to be released on December 31, 2019, as the final episode of the Sega Genesis Mini series. It was delayed significantly, ultimately releasing as a YouTube premiere on December 31, 2020, exactly one year later.
- Uniquely for an episode of a non-Franchise Play, Shining Force contains a live-action outro connected to the metaplot, which finally reveals the fates of the majority of D-Pad members after their disappearance in the first episode of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in 2018, and concludes with the announcement of a new series, Hindsight.
Notes
- ↑ In this episode, John, C/J, Ian, Felice, Dustin, Sarah, and Lindsay appear only in the live-action outro.
