The Legend of Zelda is a 1987 action-adventure game developed by Nintendo R&D4 and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Is is the first game in the The Legend of Zelda franchise. The game centers on the protagonist, Link, a silent youth who must explore the land of Hyrule to find the eight pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom in order to defeat the evil creature Ganon and rescue Princess Zelda. The game introduces the open-world exploration-based gameplay associated with series, with Link able to roam the overworld freely, his progress only limited by which items and abilities he possesses. The game was played on The D-Pad in 2013, as the first game in The Legendary Let's Play. The LP consisted of 25 episodes, released on weekdays from August 27 to September 27, 2013.

The Legend of Zelda is one of the thirty games included in the NES Classic Edition dedicated console. This version of the game was played on The D-Pad in a one-off episode in 2018, as the thirteenth game in their NES Classic Edition series. The episode was released on December 14, 2018.

The game was played on The D-Pad a third time in 2021, this time covering the harder "second quest", as the finale of The Legendary Let's Play: A Terrible Fate. The LP began on August 30, 2021.
