Atomic Runner is a 1992 scrolling shooter game developed and published by Data East for the Sega Genesis. It is a port of a 1988 arcade game. The player controls the titular Chelnov through seven stages as he attempts to rescue his sister. The storyline is considerably changed from the arcade version, which proved controversial on its release due to perceived similarities to the then-recent Chernobyl disaster. It is one of the fifty-three games included in the Sega Genesis Mini 2 dedicated console. This version of the game was played on The D-Pad in a one-off episode in 2022, as the forty-sixth game in their Sega Genesis Mini 2 series. The episode was released on December 13, 2022.
