Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories is a 2008 action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 2. It is a 3D remake of the 2004 Game Boy Advance game Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, the first side game in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. A high-definition remaster was released for the PlayStation 3 in 2013 as part of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix. The plot follows directly from the end of Kingdom Hearts, and once again centers on Sora, as he, Donald, and Goofy explore the mysterious fortress of Castle Oblivion while searching for Riku and Mickey. Along the way, they battle the villainous Organization XIII and become embroiled in a plot to manipulate Sora's memories. A second story mode, Reverse/Rebirth, is unlocked upon completion of the main game. Occurring concurrently with the main story, it follows Riku as he attempts to climb up from the deepest basement of Castle Oblivion while battling his own inner darkness. The gameplay uses a card-based battle system unique among games in the series. The PS3 version of the game was played on The D-Pad by Rick in 2018, as the second game in The Heartless Let's Play. Episodes were streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch account before being uploaded to YouTube. The LP consisted of 10 episodes; 7 covering the main game, and 3 covering Reverse/Rebirth, released from July 27 to December 21, 2018.

Trivia

  • Much like the LP of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, the Re:Chain of Memories LP was not originally classed as being part of a Franchise Play. When The Heartless Let's Play was officially revealed with the debut of the Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix LP on January 26, 2019, both LPs were retroactively added to the series.
  • The nearly two-year gap between the Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and Re:Chain of Memories LPs is the longest hiatus between episodes in The Heartless Let's Play, and the only time in the channel's history thus far that an ongoing Franchise Play has gone an entire calendar year (2017) without releasing a single video.
