Metroid: Samus Returns is a 2017 action-adventure game developed by Nintendo EPD and MercurySteam and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS. It is a remake of the 1991 Game Boy game Metroid II: Return of Samus, the second game in the Metroid franchise. The game overhauls the layout of SR388 and adds many mechanics from later Metroid games, along with new features such as a melee counterattack, the ability to aim freely in any direction, and an Aeion gauge which allows for the use of several new abilities. The game was played on The D-Pad by Rick in 2021, as the sixth game in The Screwy Let's Play. Episodes were streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch account before being posted to YouTube. The LP consisted of 3 episodes, released from September 2 to September 15, 2021.
