Metroid II: Return of Samus is a 1991 action-adventure game developed by Nintendo R&D1 and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. It is the second game in the Metroid franchise. Set some time after the events of Metroid, the plot centers on Samus Aran's mission to completely eradicate the Metroids on their homeworld of SR388. It adds new movement options for Samus, as well as a number of new upgrades including the Spider Ball, Space Jump, and Plasma Beam. The map is more linear than that of Metroid; significant backtracking is never required, and each new area can only be unlocked by defeating every Metroid in the previous one. The game was played on The D-Pad by Rick in 2021, as the second game in The Screwy Let's Play. Episodes were streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch account before being posted to YouTube. The LP consisted of 2 episodes, released from June 30 to July 7, 2021.

Trivia

  • The first episode of the Metroid II: Return of Samus LP was part of the same livestream as the second and final episode of Metroid, due to Rick finishing the latter game less than an hour into the stream.
