Super Metroid is a 1994 action-adventure game developed by Nintendo R&D1 and Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It is the third game in the Metroid franchise. Beginning immediately after the end of Metroid II: Return of Samus, the plot centers on Samus Aran's return to Zebes in order to rescue the last surviving Metroid larva from Ridley. It expands on the gameplay of the previous games, adding further movement options for Samus, most notably diagonal shots and the ability to wall jump, and new items such as the Gravity Suit, Grappling Beam, and Speed Booster. It is also notable for being the first game in the series to include a map. The game was played on The D-Pad in 2011 in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the franchise. The incomplete LP consisted of 5 episodes, released on weekdays from October 21 to October 26, 2011.
Super Metroid is one of the twenty-one games included in the Super NES Classic Edition dedicated console. This version of the game was played on The D-Pad in a one-off episode in 2017, as the thirteenth game in their Super NES Classic Edition series. The episode was released on October 19, 2017.
The game was played on The D-Pad a third time by Rick in 2021, as the third game in The Screwy Let's Play. Episodes were streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch account before being posted to YouTube. The LP consisted of 2 episodes, released from July 16 to July 21, 2021.
