Sonic the Hedgehog CD is a 1993 platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Sega CD. It is a side game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Developed in Japan by the remaining members of Sonic Team after some of the team, including lead programmer Yuji Naka, moved to the United States to create Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it serves as a sort of alternate sequel to the original Sonic the Hedgehog. Set on Little Planet, the story focuses on Sonic attempting to stop Dr. Robotnik from obtaining the powerful Time Stones. The game marks the first appearance of the characters Amy Rose and Metal Sonic, and features a time-travel based mechanic unique among the games of the series, along Sonic to visit past, present, and future versions of each of the levels. The game was played on The D-Pad in 2011, as the second game in Sonic Week. The entire LP was recorded in a single session and uploaded to the now defunct dpadup.com website as one long episode on June 21, 2011. It was later edited into 7 shorter episodes and released on YouTube on weekdays from August 24 to September 1, 2011.

The game was revisited on The D-Pad in 2016, as the eighth game in The Super Sonic Let's Play. In this LP, Christian "Taxman" Whitehead's 2011 remastered port of the game on the PlayStation 3 was played. The LP consisted of 9 episodes; 5 covering a run as Sonic, and 4 covering a run as Tails, released on weekdays from August 15 to August 19, 2016.
