Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles is a 1994 platform game developed and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis. It is the complete version of the third main game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, which was split into two halves during development and released separately as Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, accessible by connecting the two games using the "lock-on technology" of the Sonic & Knuckles cartridge, combines the games back into their originally intended form. In addition to the complete content of both separate games combined, it also contains several new features, including the ability to play as Knuckles in the first half of the game and Tails in the second half, and a new set of seven Super Emeralds, powered-up Chaos Emeralds which allow Sonic, Tails and Knuckles to transform into Hyper Sonic, Super Tails, and Hyper Knuckles, respectively. The game was played on The D-Pad in 2011, as the fourth game in Sonic Week. The entire LP was recorded in two sessions (one for the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 half and the other for the Sonic & Knuckles half) and uploaded to the now defunct dpadup.com website as two long episodes on June 23 and June 24, 2011. It was later edited into 18 shorter episodes and released on YouTube on weekdays from September 16 to October 12, 2011.

The game was revisited on The D-Pad in 2016, as the eighteenth game in The Super Sonic Let's Play. The LP consisted of 14 episodes; 13 covering the main story and a bonus episode covering the game's competitive multiplayer mode, released on weekdays from November 15 to November 30, 2016.

The game was played on The D-Pad a third time in a one-off episode in 2021, as a race between Rick, John, and C/J, the fifth game in The D-Pad 10th Anniversary Marathon Stream, and the fourth game in D-Pad Rivals. In this LP, each contestant controlled a different character; C/J played as Sonic, Rick played as Tails, and John played as Knuckles. The episode was streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch account before being uploaded to YouTube on April 13, 2021.

The game was played on The D-Pad a fourth time by Rick in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Sonic Week in 2021, as the fourth game in Sonic Weekathon. The LP was streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch account before being uploaded to YouTube in two parts from June 23 to June 24, 2021.
