Sonic Advance is a 2002 platform game developed by Dimps and Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Game Boy Advance. It is part of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, the first game in the Sonic Advance trilogy, and the first Sonic game to be published for a console developed by Nintendo, Sega's former competitor, after the latter's exit from the console market in 2001. Returning to a gameplay style inspired by the classic Sonic games on the Sega Genesis, the game features four playable characters (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy) traversing six zones and battling against Eggman. The game was played on The D-Pad in 2018, as the fiftieth game in The Super Sonic Let's Play. A video essay providing context for Sega's transition from first-party to third-party developer was released on June 25, 2018. The LP itself consisted of 16 episodes, released on weekdays from June 25 to July 18, 2018.
The game was revisited on The D-Pad in a one-off episode by Rick in 2024, as the first game in Sonic Weekathon IV Advance. The episode was streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch account before being uploaded to YouTube on December 25, 2024.
