Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a 1994 platform game developed by Sega Technical Institute and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis. It is the first half of the third main game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, after the original game was split in two halfway through development. The second half, Sonic & Knuckles, released later in the same year, allows for the two games to be combined into their originally intended form as Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. The plot, set immediately after Sonic the Hedgehog 2, takes place on the floating Angel Island, where Dr. Robotnik's Death Egg has crashed. Sonic and Tails travel to the island and battle against both Robotnik and Knuckles, the guardian of the Master Emerald who has been tricked into believing Sonic is trying to steal it. The game was played on The D-Pad in 2016, as the fourteenth game in The Super Sonic Let's Play. A video essay covering Michael Jackson's involvement with the game's soundtrack was released on October 20, 2016. The LP itself consisted of 9 episodes, released on weekdays from October 21 to October 26, 2016.
