Sonic Blast is a 1996 platform game developed by Aspect and published by Sega for the Game Gear. It is the fifth 8-bit platform in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble. The player can control either Sonic or Knuckles, similarly to in Sonic & Knuckles, as they hunt down shards of a Chaos Emerald which Dr. Robotnik is attempting to steal. The game was played on The D-Pad in 2017, preceded by a brief LP of SegaSonic Cosmo Fighter Galaxy Patrol, a 1993 arcade shoot 'em up game in which Sonic travels to space to save his friends from Robotnik, as the thirty-third and thirty-fourth games in The Super Sonic Let's Play. The LP consisted of 5 episodes, released on weekdays from March 21 to March 24, 2017.
The game was revisited on The D-Pad in a one-off episode by Rick in 2022, as the sixth game in Sonic Weekathon II. The episode was streamed live on the dpadfm Twitch account before being uploaded to YouTube on June 28, 2022.
