Sonic the Fighters is a 1996 fighting game developed by Sega AM2 and published by Sega for arcades. It is a spin-off in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and is both the first fighting game and the first 3D game in the franchise. The engine is based on that of an earlier Sega fighting game, Fighting Vipers. Among several returning characters from previous games in the series, it introduces three new ones: Bean the Dynamite, Bark the Polar Bear, and (in the 2012 re-release only) Honey the Cat, the latter based on a Fighting Vipers character with the same name. The game was played on The D-Pad in 2017, as the thirtieth game in The Super Sonic Let's Play. The LP consisted of 3 episodes; 2 covering the single-player story, and a bonus episode covering VS mode, released on weekdays from February 24 to February 26, 2017.
