Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie is a 1996 original video animation directed by Kazuho Ikegami and written by Mayori Sekijima and Masashi Kubota. It is based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Set on Planet Freedom, a world consisting of two realms, the Land of the Sky and the Land of Darkness, the plot follows Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as they battle against Dr. Robotnik and Metal Sonic in an attempt to rescue the captive President and his daughter Sara. Originally released in two episodes in Japan, it was edited into a direct-to-video film and dubbed in English in 1999. The OVA was covered on The D-Pad in 2017, in the second episode of D-Pad Reviews and as part of The Super Sonic Let's Play. The episode was released on May 17, 2017, followed by a D-Pad + Chill episode reacting to the OVA on May 19, 2017.
