Sonic 3D Blast is a 1996 platform game developed by Traveller's Tales and Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis and Sega Saturn. It is the first 3D platformer in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, played with an isometric perspective. The player controls Sonic, as he attempts to save birds known as Flickies from Dr. Robotnik. Sonic must gather five Flickies and bring them to a set location to progress through each section of each level. The Sega Saturn version of the game was played on The D-Pad in 2017, preceded by a brief LP of the 1991 Sega Genesis port of Flicky, the 1984 arcade platform game that first introduced the titular birds, as the thirty-fifth and thirty-sixth games in The Super Sonic Let's Play. The LP consisted of 13 episodes, released on weekdays from April 5 to April 21, 2017.
The Sega Genesis version of Sonic 3D Blast is one of the sixty games included in the Sega Genesis Mini 2 dedicated console. This version of the game was played on The D-Pad in a one-off episode in 2022, as the fifty-ninth game in their Sega Genesis Mini 2 series. The episode was released on December 24, 2022.
